History of Development in Kerteh [past and present]

Kerteh is one of the area (mukim) that’s located in Kemaman District, Terengganu, Malaysia. Kerteh is located at Terengganu coast and there has 15 villages in area of Kerteh. Long time years ago, Kerteh is a swamp area. Then, some years later, the swamp become dry and become land but the area still have nothing without any development. But there is agriculture area which has some coconut tree area in amid village area.

Later, on 1920 century, the traditional food industry such as shrimp paste, dried fish, and pickled was existed. Because of Kerteh located at Terengganu coast, fishery activity becomes one of the main activities for people in area Kerteh. Some of the people have skill to built fishing boats and from time to time fishing boats become bigger than usual to achieve ability to sail further into the middle of sea. Besides that, Kerteh also known as trade centre because the place becomes stopover for bigger boats and other fishery from others place.

On 1960 century, rural environment in Kerteh area seen obviously with traditional house roof made by zinc and thatched. On 1970 century, South China Sea beaches along 225km are land turtles appeared calm and quiet rather than current situation which quite polluted and less nature with development at Terengganu coast. Since 1979, Petronas worker starting measuring site in Kerteh area for construction of new airport, housing schemes gas pipeline route and meteorological stations. In 1980 century, Kerteh experienced a lot of changes because of finding the natural resources which is petroleum.

In other word, Kerteh developed because of “black gold” or petroleum which found it in the bottom of the South China Sea, overlooking the Kerteh beach. Kerteh become one of the important places because of high population and having good facilities. Kerteh also known as “City of Light” among tourist because of spillover of light from Industrial Area of Petroleum Petronas which give lighting to Kerteh on the night.

Now, there are a lot of changes can see in Kerteh. The town becomes developed and advanced as well and many activities happened around there. There are industry areas, commercial area and residential area which can give job opportunities to peoples around there. Presently, we can see that the rural area such as Kerteh can develop as well to be a attractive town just because having the natural resource which is petroleum.

Rural planning issues that are important in the EU which are also important in part of Malaysia is migration, well raw materials production and encouraging in tourism industry. This is because those issues usually come from rural area which is much provides variety things to urban area. For examples, migration issues from rural area to urban area provide workers to factory in urban area, raw material provides a lot of nature products such as timber for furniture, wood cane for handcraft and etc, for tourism industry, it will provide beautiful and calm place such as home stay and waterfall area and those things making economy in urban area will growth rapidly because of presented tourist in either from local or others country.

Issues that’s mostly important in rural area in Malaysia is providing raw materials to urban areas to further process in making complete stuff in factory in urban area. For examples, timber and wood cane is to make furniture and need to use high technology produce the product in factory which cannot find in rural area. Besides that, raw materials for food ingredients also can get from rural area and need to use high technology to produce food. So, all the raw materials need to transfer those stuffs to urban area and factory out there. In making those stuffs, it needs workers to do the job such as vehicle driver, factory worker and etc. In simple word, raw materials that come from rural area give job opportunities indirectly to people in urban area and also help urban growth.

Nevertheless, area around urban areas and rural areas also affected with this issues. In urban area, socio-economic status and lifestyle of the peoples will be high and they can support their life with job opportunities around there. Besides that, facilities status also will be upgrade because of development in economy sector and migration from rural area to urban area. It’s making urban growth rapidly. Besides that, villagers in rural area can sell their own raw material to buyer and this also help people in rural area. In other word, peoples in rural area can survive themselves by raw materials products of nature. But in other case, raw materials also will be loose in future because it’s one of the non-renewable products and these make some problems to people in rural area to cover their economy.

This issue should be addressed by all party either from communities, individuals or federal government. For communities and individuals, they should work together to assure that the quality of raw materials that needed to produce better products was care. Besides that, they should have effort to find raw materials in nature in rural area so that production of raw material will uniformly produce. Instead of that, federal government also should give superb effort to peoples in rural area with subsidy to help them use their skill to find raw materials. Besides that, giving some knowledge and facilities to them also can encourage them to finding such a quality raw materials.

Urban area is place to process the raw material from rural area and also place to generate economy either for urban area or rural area.

Percentage of this actions might be successful is high because majority peoples in rural always need some supportive and helped by other to improve and encourage themselves on what they have skill and benefits. Besides that, this action also not just give benefits and profit to urban people only but also directly to people in rural area in aspect economy and socioeconomic.

Besides that, in the city also have a lot of infrastructure, buildings such as skyscrapers, good transportation systems and small percentage for green area. Therefore, there’s a lot of human activities happened around the city and encourage the local economy growing.

One of the metropolitan city in China because has population of over 23 millions as of 2010. Due to its rapid development over the last two decades it has again become a global city. With 6,340.5 km per square (2,448.1 sq mi) land area is flat, there are a lot of building that arranged closely each other and also less percentage of green area. Besides that, the city provides people a good living in many aspects. In terms of advantage, peoples who live in this city get a lot of benefits such as system, good economic growing and high accessibility. Metropolitan city also exerted influence over commerce, finance, technology and culture. Today, Shanghai is a major financial centre and the busiest container port in the world. With those benefits, Shanghai provided a lot of job opportunity to peoples and there’s a big migration phenomena happened in Shanghai because of many sectors. The economy also growth fast and can fulfill people necessities in Shanghai.

London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom, the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom and the largest urban zone in European Union. Population in London is over 7,825,200 in 1,572.1 km per square (607 sq mi) and has density 4,978/km per square (12,892/sq mi). By the way, population in metropolitan city can grew up rapidly because of migration. Bustling life in the city making living there become more packed with others business. London also is the one of the largest city in Europe. Metropolitan city like London give a lot of effects to the world generally because it’s just like lead the global city with strengths in many sectors such as education, finance, arts, and etc. London also known as the world’s largest financial centre alongside New York City and can attract a lot of investor. Busiest airport of international passenger encourage the growing the economy of the city. Besides that, 43 universities in London is one of the largest concentrations of higher education in Europe. All those point showing that, a lot of migration happened in London City and the metropolitan area become bigger.

BUENOS AIRES,ARGENTINA

Buenos Aires is one of the metropolitan cities that produced by autonomous city of Buenos Aires and the conurbation around it, over the province of Buenos Aires which nonetheless do not constitute a single administrative unit. The conurbation spreads to the south, west, and north of Buenos Aires and also to the east the River Plate serves as a natural boundary. The population that has in Buenos Aires is over 12,801,365 in 2010. Sometimes, metropolitan city has its own nickname to show the world city status. The term “Greater Buenos Aires” is related with other expressions not necessarily well-defined. Metropolitan City like Buenos Aires gives a lot of benefits to people and also the country. Its functions as a metropolitan City encourage sectors in Argentina such as economy, tourism and education.  Those sectors also make the Buenos Aires City growing rapidly.

MUMBAI, INDIA

Mumbai is one of the large metropolitan areas in the world. Mumbai has its own name based on the status as metropolitan area which is Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR)/ Mumbai Metropolitan Area. It’s consisting of the metropolis of Mumbai and its satellite towns. The population is over 17,702,761 km square with 4355 km square. To get status as metropolitan area, its need 20 years to develop, it consists of seven municipal corporations and fifteen smaller municipal councils. This metropolitan city is product from Mumbai conurbation which is comprises the metropolitan city of Mumbai (Thane, Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar, Kalyan-Dombivali, Ulhasnagar, Vasai-Virar and Bhiwandi-Nizampur) as well as several other town and villages. A lot of investor comes to Mumbai to do some investment. Besides that, peoples who live in Mumbai city got a lot of benefits especially in context daily necessities with good accessibility, modern life and high lifestyle. In context of education, medical course is one of the famous courses in India. So, immigration happened from oversea and also local students.
